Derwent Edge holiday rental cottage is located in the quiet village of Portinscale on the edge of Derwentwater and just a fifteen minute riverside stroll (or five minute drive) from the popular market town Keswick. An ideal retreat away from the bustle of the town, with all the conveniences of Keswick with its surrounding forests, fells and lakeshore just a short walk away.

For those who do not want to use the car, you can leave the car at the cottage and explore this wonderful area by bus, foot or bike, or even by passenger boat (Keswick Launch) from Nichol End Marine, a short stroll away. By using the passenger boat you can travel on the lake to several different pick-up / drop-off points allowing you to explore a wide area on foot.

Access to the shore of Derwentwater is only a few minute's walk away, as are the two local marinas which offer a variety of water sport facilities and tuition.

Guests can explore the woods, fells, lakeshore and nearby Newlands Valley, which is well known for its connections with Beatrix Potter - all without having to use the car, should you wish.

Whinlatter Forest Park is close by with its vast array of forest walks, children's adventure areas, mountain-bike trails, Go Ape, Visitor Centre with tea-room, gift shop and large screen live web-cam showing the osprey nest nearby at Bassenthwaite Lake.

For those wanting to explore the wider area, Honister Pass, Crummock Water, Buttermere and the Western Lakes are all within easy reach by car.

The area offers a whole host of attractions to suit all ages, including Cars of the Stars Museum, The Derwent Pencil Museum, Theatre by the Lake and Castlerigg Stone Circle (4000 years old) to name just a few.

There are also plenty of activities to suit all energy levels such as paragliding, rock-climbing, golf, fishing and plenty of water sports.

If you are keen on outdoor activities and would like some guiding or coaching, we'd suggest that Steve Banks, as one of the most qualified and experienced outdoor specialists, would be a good person to contact.
